Magnolia

For many, it is considered the most aristocratic and ancient flower in nature. Its story is not told in centuries, but in millions of years.

The flower that conquered time. Before bees existed on Earth, the Magnolia was already unfolding its petals. It is one of the oldest flowers in the world; a living fossil that has witnessed the rise and fall of civilizations. The Magnolia is the teacher of perseverance and dignity.

Its Character: A Fortress of Silk

• The wax petal. Unlike other flowers, Magnolia petals are thick, firm, and soft like velvet or wax. They convey the idea of solid beauty, one that does not wither with the first breath of wind.
• The purity of white. Its color is that of mother-of-pearl or ivory. In the language of flowers, the Magnolia represents nobility of spirit and purity of intention. It is the flower of deep calm.
• The fragrance. Its scent is a secret revealed slowly, a blend of sweet lemon and fresh air that has the power to clear the mind and slow the pulse.

The Magnolia in Our Culture

In Mexico, especially in the south, the magnolia — or Yoloxóchitl, “flower of the heart” in Nahuatl — was highly valued by pre-Hispanic lords. It was used to comfort the heart and to symbolize high-ranking hospitality. To have a Magnolia nearby is to have an amulet against the chaos of the outside world.
